Cupcakes in a Jar

In honor of International Cupcake Week I thought I'd make cupcakes in a jar as a treat for the family. We always pack a lunch when I go writing on Tuesday nights and Chris and the boys run errands so these seemed like a great portable dessert - and yes, I have heard of cookies. I'm just not very good at making them :-)

Aren't they cute! They're also unforgivably feminine, but it's a jar of cupcakes... my little macho men can deal.

I love that we can reuse everything but the forks. We can probably even reuse those... I wonder if they're dishwasher safe? Thoughts?

  1. CUTE!! Don't know if the forks are dishwasher safe, but I wash mine by hand. I use them over and over in my lunches.

  3. Here comes trouble Nicole!lol I made your ice cream cone cakes and my hubby and grown 3 boys turned into little boys!!!! It was a simple memorable time! I don't own a cookbook but I do collect recipes. I would love your german chocolate recipe :) One cupcake at a time, you are creating memories for a lifetime:) Hugs :) Dara Lynn

  4. I've washed my heavier plastic forks in the dishwasher. They probably don't last as long, but they were designed to be disposable anyway, so I still figure I'm doing a good thing by reusing them.

I bet your macho guys appreciate the trouble you put into something like this, even if they can't admit it now.

Years from now, they'll be saying, "Remember those cute cupcakes in a jar Mom made for us all the time?"

  6. I think it depends on the fork...I wash the ones we got at costco - just ask people to drop them in a bucket of soapy water (literally, a sandbox bucket) and then wash them later. I even put them back in the box they came in for next time!

And...I can't ever get the coconut pecan frosting right. it's either too runny or the taste is...off. But I do enjoy trying to get it right :D

So did you you crumble up the cake or what in the jars? Are they mini cupcakes?? I'm confused, I didn't think it was cooked at first!
