Gallery Shelves: A More Awesome Wall of Awesome

When I saw DIY gallery shelves by Ana-White on Pinterest I knew what our Memorial Day Weekend project was going to be. After five years, our Wall of Awesome was starting to show it's age a bit and I wanted something that would allow easier dusting, more variety and less holes in the walls.

Here's some Wall of Awesome sections

But it's very hard to dust or rearrange and it leads to this:

So after more patching then I care to recall, we got to paint.

Meanwhile we made shelves. While the ledges are in fact, "Ten Dollar Shelves", and for eight feet no less, they are anything but quick and easy and it took us all weekend to paint them on all sides, several times, and get them up on the wall in a reasonable fashion.

My living room... because it was SNOWING all weekend and too cold in the garage... yes, I am yelling:

Anyhoo~

Finally at literally the eleventh hour (or 2300 if you're so inclined) we had the shelves painted, assembled and hung. Hooray. I kinda threw the frames up without a ton of thought because it was the middle of the night everything up there is special to us and I know I'll be messing around with them indefinitely. 

The Wall of Awesome, now, Awesomer!



They're so pretty! Well worth the time and effort.

    I love the new look!! It so reminds me of laying out a page or a newsletter or poster or whatever, where everything gets aligned and is suddenly SO much easier to look at.

    Aw, painting in the living room! One of the reasons I was so excited to get electric heat in the basement, even though we only set it high enough to keep mold away (55 degrees), is that we don't have to decide whether to wait for a nice day to paint or go ahead and try it in Dog Hair and Traffic Central. :)

    That's terrific - the contrasting colour of the wall is very nice! And it might be just what we need for hanging all of our family photos that need hanging...

    AWESOMER! Definitely - I love this - I wish our walls would take weight without falling down as I would SO be nicking this idea. As it is can't even hang pictures :( Stupid fake walls.

    That looks totally fabulous. Enjoy it!

    Best of all is that you can rotate stuff in and out of it to keep it "fresh" and inspirational!

    I can't believe it snowed on Memorial Day weekend. That's just wrong.

    Congrats on winning the Ginger challenge with your Retro Cowgirls! I love that card and always love what you did with that set.

    I want to do this now, Nicole! I really like how it turned out. It looks very professional and much neater than before. I don't know when I would get around to it, but when I do... I will share back!

    Hmmm...I have those shelves on my to-do list. Was it time consuming because you had to work in the living room...or just time consuming?
