EEK! It was really scary! The kids were totally freaked out mid-point and then they were sporting some serious swagger when it was over. All in all they thought the movie was excellent. So good in fact that they worry after a lifetime of hand-picked movies they're going to be sorely disappointed when they're out on their own and shelling out eight bucks a ticket with very little assurance it's going to rock. Welcome to life, boys.
In honor of the occasion we went all out on treats. I decided that we've had plenty of traditional popcorn and Sour Patch Kids movie nights so we'd make something a little special.
We started the evening with Hot Chocolate Popovers:
The recipe was easy to follow and they were delicious. My only complaint was that the broiling step came very close to burning the tops of the popovers before the marshmallow browned.
My complaint was silenced in the presence of this awesomeness:
I was pretty much rendered speechless.
A little while later we had Bacon Wrapped Potatoes with Spicy Sour Cream Dipping Sauce. Before the movie I boiled the potatoes and made the dip. Then I assembled them so I could just pop them in the oven when we were hungry again.
To be honest I ended up tweaking the dip quite a bit. It wasn't very nuanced as written so I added about three teaspoons of hot sauce to the sour cream, some Bacon Salt, pepper and garlic. Much better!
Here's they are pre-baking:
And after:
As I'm sure you can imagine, they disappeared.
mmmmmmmmmmmm!!! so many yummy things!!! Hugs Juls
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you are such a creative momma! Both of those look too yummy. Those chocolate marshmallow popovers are unreal. I can't wait to make those. And eat them all by myself. Except I won't be watching the Sixth Sense - more like Pride and Prejudice or Love Actually :)
