Things I Do NOT Want to Collect

Hey Everyone, today's prompt was "Things I Want to Collect" but I'm not much of a collector so the boys and I thought it would be way more fun to make a list of "Things I do NOT want to collect".
It's my list, right?

I thought it might be fun to show you how I make a page start to finish.

This is the background I started with. I HATE those grey, blobby drips. Ugh.

So I pulled out my palette knife and skimmed them over with gesso.

But I forgot it was Liquitex gesso which isn't near as opaque, so once it dried I had slightly less obvious grey streaks and blogs. Still ugh.

White paint to the rescue. I brushed it on fairly dry so as to not lose too much of the background.

Then I added a stamp, using Staz-On ink.

And he needed a pool of blood to stand in. I made this with a little Golden liquid acrylic paint and the edge of my palette knife.

I got these intense blocks for my birthday and was scared to try them. What a wimp. Be scared of sky diving - not art supplies. So I started making a frame for my page using various colors. They rock!

More colors. And a little color for him too. I also covered over the packing tape transfer with white paint. It was distracting.

Next I added text, title and splatters. I made my list on the computer and printed it on our laser printer so it wouldn't run. Then I cut out the words and used Mod Podge (underneath and on top) to stick it down. Edging your strips with a black pen helps it all come together.

For the splatters, I used watered down red paint. There are three different colors of red all with varied thickness for visual interest.

  6. Oooh. Love this. Great list and fun to read.

Thanks for showing your process. Very interesting and informative.

I LOVE that stamp. So cool.

I have Inktense pencils, which are cool, but haven't seen or tried the blocks.

Have you tried Pan Pastels yet? I want to try them before I commit to another expensive coloring medium, which I'd also have to store...
