Paper Artsy Guest Blogger: Wearables

You guys!

I seriously messed up. Big time.

About a week ago my middlet was laid up having just had all four impacted wisdom teeth pulled. The next day I came down with the flu and a killer fever.

So while he dozed on the couch I slept on the love seat and we were miserable together.

I didn't get much done though.

When we both came back to our senses I apparently missed a few things... like my guest post at Paper Artsy going live. Oops.

I've been diligently checking everyday since and drooling over everyone's gorgeous projects.

Then it hit me... I bet mine went up during the Great Darkness of 2015 ;-)

And Sure enough, there it is. My post, all the lovely folks who commented so sweetly.

*sigh*

So please, all my darling readers, CLICK OVER TO THE POST and say hello for me.

One Layer Tag

So I was totally kicking it old school for the SDC:216 Tag Challenge.

First I dug around and found my last Ranger manilla tag (love these!) and I stamped Topher near the middle with Versamark ink... that required finding my versa mark ink. I haven't stamped with the intention to color in a loooong time.

Then I made a mask and had to search for some repositionable glue (are you catching theme here... it's been awhile). With mixed media, repositionable is the farthest thing from what I'm looking for.

Once the mask was trimmed all pretty I let the glue set and then covered up Topher. Then I stamped the Angel wings - 2 sided (I am going to use the heck out of this most awesome stamp) kind of catawampus 'behind' Topher. I peeled off the mask and voila - a shy winged dude.

The rest was cake - copic markers for color and I made the very simple background by scribbling a bit of purple neocolor crayons and then blending it out with white liquid acrylic.

Once it was all dry, I touched up the show laces and wing tips with a black micron pen.

Easy peasy. I even got to take a picture before the rain made things too soggy.

Anyone who's been reading this blog for long knows one-layer is way out of my comfort zone. I'm glad I challenged myself to do this and I'm sure this tag will find it's way into an art journal page or postcard before too much time passes.

FWIW, I had a great time coloring and stamping - it's nice to revisit old favorite pastimes.

Because I'm a Woman - Art Journal Page

Here's another art journal page featuring an analogous background and employing a complimentary color on the focal point for POP.

This gal was originally an illustration of 'women of the future' from the 1920s. She looks like she means business.

Painted Owl Pumpkin

You all know how I love Take The Challenge with Mou, right?

So last night when I saw the challenge go up while I was at the grocery store I immediately decided to paint a pumpkin with chalkboard paint and then turn it into an owl.

The challenge is:

October is the month of Halloween, at least here in the States. If  you are around children, you know that what they love most about that, is the Trick or Treat ritual. So, I thought, for October, why don't I issue you a two-part challenge? No no, don't worry it won't be too tricky and as always there will be a treat at the end! And even if you are not in the States, you can totally play along too. So, without further ado, your challenge this month is:Part 1: Use BLACK Chalkboard Paint (as much or as little you like) on something you create. It does not have to be Halloween-related, although that would be fun too! Part 2: Add an owl. Sketch it, doodle it, draw it, transfer it, stamp it... you decide it.

I think it turned out pretty adorable, my not-so-hot owl drawing skills aside :-)

The steps were simple:

1. paint pumpkin with black chalkboard paint. Let dry.
2. Sketch owl on pumpkin with chalk
3. Paint owl.
4. Add details with paint pen.

I think he needs a name.

Cute story: when my boys were 2, 3 and 4 they loved a book called 'Owl Babies'. That same year, their Uncle Al came to visit. They were ecstatic as they thought 'Uncle Owl' was coming. And they referred to him as 'Uncle Owl Babies' for years.

My porch is starting to get the memo that fall has arrived!

Thanks for visiting!

P.S. Thanks to Alisa Burke for inspiring this attempt :-)

#31Postcard in October

I'm sending thirty-one postcards in the month of October. While some will be bought and others are ones I made in the past, I am using up my spare bits of time to play.

This collage will be going in the mail tonight :-)

Complimentary Color ArtJournal Layout

I made this page after downloading Dina Wakely's newest art lesson from Interweave. The topic was using complimentary colors to make your focal image pop.

(click the pic to see this up close!)

The background was a mop up page that was all analogous warm colors so I used cool colors on the woman.

And the quote is one of my all time favorites from Danielle LaPorte. She really knows how to drop Truth Bombs.
