Embellished Scissors: THRIVE

Oops. Just found a bunch of unpublished posts in my drafts folder.

Somehow I keep doing that.

This is from my embellished antique scissors series.

My favorite part is the tiny beads at the end the blade.

Hope you're all having a great weekend.
Portland is finally getting dark and stormy, just the way I like it.

Neon Pink Applique Bag

For this tote bag I took strips of painted canvas and sewed them together both horizontally and vertically. Once I had a nice big piece to work with, I cut the cloth in a large circle and sewed it on the front of the tote.

Lately the idea of embellishing with layers rather than contrasting colors has been really appealing.

This is the back :-)

By boxing the corners, the bag is nice and deep. I love how it looks and how flat it sits.

Glittered Mixed-Media Heart

I just can't get enough of hearts.

Hearts. Flowers. Stars.
They may be the most pedestrian of doodles but they call to us on a very deep soul-level.

So I'm going to indulge myself in just a few more.
*shrug*

Can't be tamed ;-)

P.S. Guess who found her glitter Mod Podge *woop-woop*

Fall Leaf Mixed Media Artwork

Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world.

Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.

With the holidays approaching (sorry, but it's true and before we know it...) I thought I'd focus on restocking my Etsy shop with a wide variety of items at a gift-giving friendly price.

This one is priced to go fast at $25 :-)

How Far Can You Go? Original Collage

As I'm sure some of you know, my husband is a triathlete. He's currently training for a half-ironman in St. Croix.

So we are living eating and breathing endurance sports. And it's coming out in my art.

A real challenge with collage work is making art that would be suitable to add to a man's collection. Let's face it, a lot of it is pretty girly.

I think I met my goal on making a masculine collage that still incorporates all the elements and techniques that make up my work.

Do you have an endurance athlete in your life? Is your spouse sporty? How about you? Do you do sweaty things?

Bunches of Bird Tags

I've been carving a lot of bird stamps lately.

And before I send them off to their new home (mainly loved ones) I usually stamp myself a stack of tags.

Tags are an absolute lifesaver for last minute gift giving, note writing etc.

Your neighbors dog got out again, writing a quick note about closing their damn gate seems positively friendly on a tag while maybe a bit less so on a post-it.

Giving jam, flowers, a little gift... the tag really makes it special.

Plus the manilla has a nice weight to it, I often fussy-cut out the images and add them to art journal pages.

Here's another hand-carved bird, this one is for my mom-in-law:

I stamped oodles before dropping it in the mail.

I really like how the carving stands alone as a powerful, attractive image.

Let me know how you like to use tags and I'll pick a comment or two and drop some in the mail as a gift.

Embellished Scissors: GRACE

Happy Monday, everyone!

Don't you just love gold and purple together? I think it's one of the great underused color combos.

Classic, pretty, soothing.

Grace.
