Punk Fairy Girl Original Collage

So I had to make another fairy girl using the lovely Jill stamp from Stampotique. 

Couldn't help myself :-)

There was some serious Gelli Plate madness going on with this fairy girl. Every part of her, save for the book paper is mono-prints I made by hand using my Gelli Plate. Oh my gosh, how I love that thing!

Did you know Julie Balzers's Blazonry stencil for TCW is PERFECT for making wings. Seriously. Perfect. 

And I used the little skull stamp from Bombshell Stamps Panther Tattoo set

Summer Garden Fairy Mixed Media Collage

Hey Everyone! 

The SDC99 challenge, chosen by Carol, is "Summertime"and the first thing that came to mind was gardens, flowers, fireflies... and that led me to creating a garden fairy clothed in a cheerful sundress.  

The piece measures 6x12 and the background is acrylic paint on MDF, with layers of stamping and stencils. The majority of the stencils used in this mixed-media wall hanging are TCW - Balzer Designs. 

For her wings, dress and boots I made Gelli Plate mono-prints using regular typing paper and deli paper. The deli paper is translucent (like vellum) and it gives the wings a lovely ethereal quality. 

For the head I stamped Jill on book paper, I just love her big eyes and sassy hair. I'll be investing in the other heads ASAP here's a link to the ones I'm coveting Stampotique carries: Leeta, Jeepers, Miss Snottie, Clover,  Muffin, Pockets and Mervyn

The flowers were made with scraps from my mixed-media index cards and a heart punch. 

For the quote I stamped Sometimes on typing paper using Staz-on. I could really relate to the sentiment:

Inquisitive Green Fairy Painting

When I was making this inquisitive fairy I was thinking about how young women come to an age where they are still child-like but their gazes hold the wisdom of the ages and their questions pierce through all the noise to the very heart of things. It is an interesting, precocious, in-between step that is fascinating to observe.

Have you noticed that too

Still loving dimensional paste, all that luscious texture makes me so happy!

And I continue to work on faces. 

I look forward to the day when they are easier and I can be looser in my drawing of them.

Tween Fairy Princess

I'm having a sad week. My step-dad passed away on Friday afternoon. His death was very unexpected.  My mom is doing very well and his memorial service will be held in April back home in Canada.

As you know, my father-in-law passed away just six weeks ago so there has been more grief in our home than we can manage. It's just so incredibly strange to go from two dads to none in a little over a month.

Please excuse any unanswered comments and emails. I'm a bit behind right now.

I've been painting a lot. This is one I made last week and am now finally photographing. I had the pleasure of meeting a friend for coffee and she has two delightful little girls. They are SO incredibly stylish that I wanted to make a fairy girl honoring that modern vibe that girls have now. 

Here she is:

 It's a big change for me to try painting instead of collage but it's a wonderful challenge.

A Friendly Fairy

The first fairy I made is SO me but she was also a little .... er... judgmental and unimpressed. 

So I decided to make a conscious effort to create a sweet-natured, friendly, supportive fairy. 

Her dress was made of modeling paste and her wings are Gelli Plate mono-printed paper:
