We live near the top of a gorgeous mountain nestled in the Wasatch range. Hiking seems like an obvious pastime but we forget to go. Perhaps it's the ten months of winter that makes summer strange and new each year or maybe it's just all the wild life in our yard makes us wonder how much wilder the untamed parts are. But it's been two years since we've walked out our front door and headed north towards the summit and the peaks beyond.
On Friday we gathered up our dog and water bottles and began our trek. It was gorgeous and Chocolate loved being free. He seems to have a good instinct for sweeping an area for danger and keeping just far enough ahead to alert us to anything out of the ordinary. It was great to see him be a dog; I feel sorry for him that so much of his life is on the leash and under control.
We hiked for an hour and a half before my poor stomach couldn't take anymore. It was gorgeous being out in the wild with nothing but the occasional mountain biker for company. And the views of the valley were breathtaking. Here's some photos, click on them to enlarge:

Hi Claudette
Thanks for dropping by.
Just across the street from our house is public land and hiking trails. The peaks are around 12,000 feet so there are plenty of amazing views and great spots to explore. I love that we can be completely isolated from civilization after about a ten minute walk.
I'm getting into stamping more and more - if it's all right, I'll have to pick your brain for tips :-)
Wow Nicole! Great pics! You look awesome in those jeans and cowboy hat. :) I miss ya tons!
Yes, yes, the mountain is beautiful...but you look FANTASTIC!
